Meet our DisCo, Laurette

Hey friends!

My name is Laurette and I’m very grateful to be serving as the discipleship coordinator for UCM this next school year! I’m starting the school year continuing my co-op from May at Union Gospel Mission in the Downtown Eastside (you will definitely be my favorite person if you ask me about it!) but I’m going into my 4th year at UBC, majoring in International Relations.
Being an international student (Canada is the 8th country I’ve lived in!), I have grown up knowing the importance of community, and I’m excited to give back to this one! I find great joy in walking alongside others and hearing their stories, especially over a shared meal or a solid mocha/matcha.

Some things that also bring me joy: 
  • I love thrifting! (but it might be time for a less expensive hobby…)
  • I adore chatting with others, and I’m always down to do so, say less! (except when we’re yapping, then say more!)
  • Going on (longgg) walks and visiting cafés, especially with company (… another chance to yap)
  • I’ve been loving getting to explore Vancouver and BC (or however far the buses and ferries can take me)
  • I will never say no to a sweet treat if you need a buddy to get one… (my wallet is not my biggest fan)

 I am very passionate about serving others and loving Jesus, and I’m very excited to be able to do more of both! I’ve seen God move graciously in my life and our communities, and I’m grateful for the chance to help create space for others to encounter Him and experience deeper fellowship. 

UCM has given me so much to be grateful for, especially in my walk with Jesus and my closest friends. I love meeting new people and would absolutely love to meet you too, so please don’t hesitate to reach out!
