Meet Connor, our CMA
I’m Connor and I get to be on staff as the UCM apprentice this year! I spent five years here at UBC doing engineering stuff, during which my faith was shaken and stress-tested (maybe some of that comes through in my expression on the right) but ultimately reinforced and expanded, and UCM has been a huge part of that process. I am so excited to help create space for students to grow in their commitment to following Jesus, or to encounter him for the first time! A bit about me: I like ping-pong, caffeine, going for runs in Pacific Spirit, soccer (actually most sports with a ball or a disc), that random sushi place under McDonalds that feels like a liminal space, and not playing Super Smash Bros; so if you’re down for any of those things we should make it happen! Plus Calvin and Hobbes, that is the second most important contribution to world literature and I will die on this hill. I also like this quote from Andy Crouch in his book ‘Strong and Weak’ (worth a read): “Above all, meaningful action participates in a story. It has a past and a future. Meaningful action does not just come from nowhere, and it does not just vanish in an instant – it takes place in a story that matters.” The story that God wants to write in each of our lives – and collectively here at UBC – is really good, really meaningful, and really epic! And I can’t wait to see how he calls us all deeper into that story over the next year, to experience the life to the full he promises in John 10:10. If you’ve read this far, pro tip: Bring your travel mug to the Engineering Student Centre between 10 and 3 on a weekday, and the nice volunteers behind the desk will fill it with coffee for 75¢. Quality-wise it’s consistently drinkable:D |
