Meet Luke, one of our CMAs

Hey, I'm Luke, and I get the absolute  privilege of serving as an apprenticing staff member this year at UCM on my home campus!

I completed my undergrad at UBC, where I served as a student leader with UCM for several years before becoming an apprentice. My degree was in engineering with a philosophy minor (lately it's been lighter on the engineering and heavier on the philosophy, as evidenced by the fact that I sometimes forget my major when asked). Beside spiritual things, my true passions lie in all things social and creative. I spend my leisure time working on moustache improvement, investigating the ideal GSM, wash, and bagginess of a pair of black jeans with utmost precision, and, most importantly, grabbing coffee with anyone willing to risk entry into the gravitational field of my "flexible schedule."

To be more serious: I firmly believe all of life is meant to be lived as worship to God, whether I'm discussing the differences between second and third wave emo music or sitting with someone in a heavy, vulnerable conversation. Every part of life should be filtered through attentiveness to God's presence and a heart posture of worship toward Him. I see my work in ministry as simply one expression of what I'd hope to be doing in any vocation: acting as an ambassador of God's kingdom by embodying the character of Jesus to those around me.

I view disciple-making as the central task of campus ministry, and a necessary practice for any Christ follower, whether in vocational ministry or not. At UCM, I partner with the Holy Spirit as He teaches students to obey all that Christ has commanded, including the call to go and teach others to do the same. Day to day, I endeavour to support student leaders and community members as they lead Bible studies, take part in on-campus outreach, host weekly worship gatherings, and grow in their own spiritual maturity.

Life hack: peeling oranges is entirely unnecessary. Just slice into bite sized pieces and eat with a fork. Clean up reduces to zero, and the peel adds a certain zest that's charming enough make the experience more than bearable.
