Meet our Pres, Beka

Hey hey hey!

​My name is Rebekah (but most people just call me Beka) and I’m serving as president at UCM this year! I’m currently heading into my fourth and final year at UBC Sauder where I am completing my Commerce degree & specializing in Accounting. I ADORE Vancouver and am always down to head to the beach or go for a weekend hike, but before moving here I grew up in the GTA, right around Canada’s Wonderland.

A few things I love are:
  • Cafes! I am a longtime barista and always on the lookout for Vancouver’s best matcha + (PLEASE let me know spots you wanna try and I’ll gladly tag along). 
  • Animals! I will interrupt my conversations to tell a stranger they have a beautiful dog. 
  • Sports! I love to play soccer, football, basketball, volleyball, badminton, spikeball, & love watching NCAA volleyball in my free time.
  • Storytelling! Whether it be on Macinnes field, over brunch, around a fire or anywhere in between I love to hear about people’s lives and yap about the cool things they’re getting up to! 

I am stoked to be returning to the UCM exec team this year to serve this awesome community. UCM has been an incredibly fruitful source of friendship in my life but has also made a massive impact on how I live out my faith, and I am on fire to open doors like that for the people of UBC & Vancouver. My desire is for this club to leave people better then we find them through deep, genuine and joyful community. I have witnessed God powerfully soften hearts in this community time and time again and am eager to be a set of hands and feet he can use to keep doing his glorious work. 

My role in this community for the next year lies in creating a culture of supported leaders and volunteers, encouraging a welcoming, wide embrace and helping make the big dreams of our members & teams a reality. I am excited to pray for this community, worship with this community, welcome this community, disciple this community, and reach out to others around us to witness it grow, not in number but in faith. 

From studying to meals to dancing to worshipping to spikeball-playing to stressing to celebrating, I am so excited to invite this community to do life alongside one another, from the mundane to the most memorable times all in an attempt to live like Jesus :)
